Effect of membrane structure on separation performance

With the application of membrane separation technology in the market is becoming more and more common, the membrane as a central element, its type of material is also more and more, people do not give, the choice of membrane material, structure is becoming more and more difficult. Some membrane material selection is not good may directly affect the whole respectively effect.
1. The influence of membrane pore size on the performance of each
The size of the membrane pore size determines the sieving effect of the membrane, thus affecting the convection effect in the respective. As the flux increases, the rejection rate increases, and when the flux is close to zero, the rejection rate is close to a fixed value. This value is the maximum value that the membrane can reach for the solution, and can characterize the membrane's ability to separate the solution.
2. The influence of film thickness and porosity on the performance respectively
Solute and solvent molecules in the pressure driven by the same speed into the membrane. The solvent molecules are small, the probability of collision with the pore wall is small, can easily pass through the pore, and the size of the solute molecules is in the same order of magnitude as the membrane pore, and the effect of steric hindrance after entering the pore is significant. Once the collision of the solute particles with the pore walls occurs, the solvent molecules are separated from the solute molecules.
From the above, it can be seen that a smaller pore size or a larger solute ion radius can reduce the flux required for the membrane to reach the maximum separation, thus helping to reduce the operating pressure difference of the membrane separation process.
